The 2nd Annual Orthodox Asheville Divine Liturgy is this Saturday, May 14, 2011, beginning at 10:30am. This grassroots movement called “Orthodox Asheville” was born with God’s help and faithful Orthodox Christians in the area that want to spread the glory and majesty of the Orthodox Church to everyone in Asheville and Western North Carolina. It will be held at Malvern Hills Park in West Asheville under an open canopy on a wonderful Spring day. A picnic will follow; keep reading for exact details.
What Churches Represent “Orthodox Asheville”
There are four different Orthodox Christian Churches in the Asheville, NC area: Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Saints Joseph & Andrew Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, and the blessed Protection of the Theotokos Monastery of the Orthodox Church of America. Each Orthodox Christian Church is self-governed and are in Communion with one another. Currently, all Orthodox Churches will be represented by their respective clergy members at the 2nd Annual Orthodox Asheville Liturgy in the Park, save Saints Joseph and Andrew Church.
